The Import Dialog

Often, the data you want to plot exists in a file. The Import Dialog can be used to import data from text files and store it in spreadsheet form. These internal Graphis spreadsheets can then be used as data sources for plots and curves.

The functionality provided by the Import Dialog is similar to the text import feature of Microsoft Excel. For example, if you have a text file, each line of which consists of a set of numbers separated by commas (the so-called delimiting characters), the Import Dialog can be used to extract the numbers only and place them in a spreadsheet. Options exist to read in only part of the file and/or use different delimiting characters. This allows more complicated situations to be catered for, e.g. extraction of numbers from a table outlined by asterisks midway through a text file.
